The stage is set for a TF35 showdown as the high-performance foiling catamaran tour wraps up at the prestigious Société Nautique de Genève on Lake Geneva. The final event, hosted by Realstone to raise awareness for sailing cancer charity Léman Hope, promises a thrilling conclusion with the overall rankings tied across the fleet.
After a win at last month’s TF35 Voiles de Choisi, Esteban Garcia’s Realteam Sailing, led by skipper Jérôme Clerc, has surged into first place. However, their position at the top is far from secure, as they are tied on points with Yann Guichard’s Sails of Change 8. The final showdown will determine who takes home the season title.
“We’ve had a strong season, but the championship will come down to this last race. It's the team that finishes first this weekend that will win the championship—and that’s pretty exciting,” says Guichard.
Clerc’s crew has been the standout team in the TF35 class, having dominated the 2023 season with victories at every regatta. However, the 2024 season has seen tighter competition. Sails of Change 8 have matched Realteam’s performance, making this final event a thrilling decider.
Beyond the battle for first, Zen Too, after a year of focused work on boat handling, currently sits in third place, tied on points with Ylliam XII - Comptoir Immobilier in fourth. The weekend will also decide the tie between two of the newest teams in the fleet: Ylliam 17, which joined in 2023, and Sails of Change 10, helmed by Duncan Späth in 2024.
“The class has reached full maturity this season,” explains Bertrand Favre, TF35 Class Manager. “The updated flight system has greatly improved the boats' stability, regardless of sailing angle. The boats are fast, the fleet is tight, and the outcome often hinges on small details in each race. It’s exciting to see so many teams tied heading into the final event!”
While strong winds earlier this week delayed training sessions, the weekend forecast predicts a light and fickle breeze, adding another layer of challenge for the teams.
