The final event of the 2022 TF35 season will take place this week with the fleet of cutting-edge hydro-foiling catamarans racing out of the prestigious Mediterranean port of Scarlino in the heart of Tuscan Italy, over the 6 – 9 of October.
With light winds and flat water in the forecast, the competition will kick off on Thursday 6th October with two practice rounds followed by two points-scoring races.
Three teams look particularly strong going into the season final. Scarlino favourites Jérôme Clerc and Esteban Garcia's Realteam for Leman hope clinched the overall season title last year with impressive back-to-back wins in Scarlino.
However, Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi Red Bull Racing, current America's Cup challengers, is racing this week with the confidence that they have already won the 2022 season. Bertarelli followed up two event wins in Switzerland at the start of the year with a second place last month in Malcesine on Lake Garda, Northern Italy.
"The key to success this season has been our preparation," explained Lucien Cujean. "Getting back into race mode was very beneficial for us after the summer break, so we are happy with the result. It's important to find the right balance between the AC preparation and racing on interesting series like this one."
Also riding high after the Malcesine event is Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard's Spindrift. The young team upped their game on the stormy lake last month and impressed everyone, winning four out of seven races to take their first event victory in the TF35.
Fourth in the overall standings, Team Sailfever helmed by charismatic french sailing legend Loïck Peyron will be hoping to claw their way up on to the podium in Scarlino, but with Zen Too and Ylliam XII - Comptoir Immobilier regularly hitting top three results in races, it won't be easy.
Racing starts at 1200 Thursday, 6 October and runs until Sunday, with up to five races scheduled each day.
