This weekend the seven teams competing on the new cutting-edge TF35 hydro-foiling catamaran will take to the waters of Lake Geneva for round two of their 2021 racing calendar.
Hosted by the Société Nautique de Nyon over the 14-16 May, this will be the second time in two weeks that the fleet has met. The season opener at the start of the month was a real test of the crew's experience and boat handling; with a breeze as light as six knots in moments, the key to winning was all in keeping the boat on the foils.
In this Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi prevailed, winning two out of three races, but Bertarelli was challenged at every move by Esteban Garcia's Realteam Sailing, which took second.
This weekend, the TF35 racing will be more adrenalin charged with the forecast for the wind to be southwesterly 10-15 knots. This new set of conditions could allow for a shake-up of the leaderboard as the boat's automated flight control system comes into its own, allowing the sailors to shift their focus from staying on the foils to tactics on the race course.
