Lake Geneva turned up the volume for day three of the TF35 Nyon Cup with 100 km/h gusts recorded at La Dôle, in the Jura mountain range overlooking the lake, by the time of the 10.00CET skippers briefing.

At lake level, the wind was hitting 22 knots, and the waves were beginning to build, so the teams were held ashore whilst the race committee monitored the situation incase things improved for the afternoon.

The hope was that the heat of the day would cause the thermal breeze to kick in and the northeasterly gradient wind would fade, allowing a small window to race in the afternoon, but with the wind still howling at 17-18 knots by 15:00CET and a sizeable swell rolling through the decision was made to cancel the day.

Principal Race Officer Benoit Deutsch explained: "The conditions were never right today for us to be able to start racing. We were hoping that in the afternoon the wind would drop sufficiently for the lake to calm down and conditions to become practicable. This didn't happen, so we're forced to call it a day. We hope to be able to organise some good races tomorrow.

Tomorrow's final for the TF35 Nyon Cup will see five races sailed starting from 11.30CET.
