Having set up team Zoulou (formerly Twins’) in 2003, Erik Maris, together with long time associates JSPonce and Thierry Fouchier, has covered the one-design monohull racing scene. They won the Swan 45 European Championship (2003), Mumm 30 World Championship (2006?), raced many years a Farr 40 and an Open 7.50, they then moved across to catamarans. From 2009 to 2012 Zoulou competed on the Extreme Sailing Series with the Extreme 40 and in 2010 joined the D35 catamaran circuit on Lake Geneva. The team have also competed on the Flying Phantom, F18 and most recently the GC32 Racing Tour in which they podiumed for the last two years.
"The thing that excites me most about the TF35 is the cutting-edge technology and efficiency in light wind. The flying upwind is going to open up new worlds. It will be great fun to compete in this exciting fleet," Maris explains.
After a week training in Mar Menor, Jean-Sebastien Ponce gives us his first impressions of the boat: "The team of designers, builders and class manager have done a great job by giving us such a weapon. The boat is very powerful, the mast is tall and the sails are enormous".
