The end of an era

21/09/2019

On Saturday, 21 September, the D35 Trophy held its closing party hosted at the Société Nautique de Genève.

“It was an emotional evening,” explains class manager Bertrand Favre, “The last prize giving ceremony for the D35 Trophy after 16 very successful years marks the start of a new adventure with the TF35.”

The evening opened with a speech from Nicolas Grange, President of the D35 Class, who told the crowed room of guests, friends and family of the fleet that he was proud of the D35 story so far, and sad to see the end of an era, but the arrival of the TF35 on the lake keeps the momentum and spirit of the class going. A perfect demonstration of how Switzerland and the Lake Geneva region can be innovative in the world of sailing.

Three of the new TF35 owners, including Ernesto Bertarelli, Guy de Picciotto and Bertrand Demole, shared their first impression of sailing on the TF35. For de Picciotto and Demole it was their first time sailing on a foiling boat: “The stability and smoothness of the flight is impressive.” explained Demole.

The TF35 boat zero is now available for the eight teams take use for a week at a time to start the training process ahead of the 2020 season. First to take to the water will be Guy de Picciotto’s team Zen Too from Monday Oct 7.
